Remember their names....

Tom Scharbach has created this powerful post listing the Iraq war dead - their names, ages, ranks and date of death, as of May 24th. Go there. Read. And remember...

He also posted this reminder that the current war is not the only war, either. His image of the Vietnam War Memorial (25 years old, this year!) with some of the 58,178 lost in that conflict, is also a powerfully evocative image.

(Late edit: Sorry, Tom, I missed posting the link to the Vietnam post. It's there now. Mea culpa...)

It may be helpful to remember that 2 1/2 million Vietnamese died in the war in Vietnam.

You are absolutely right, Peter. It's easy to focus on our losses, and fail to see the bigger picture. That's what I have friends like you, it would seem...

Just as there are somewhere between 60,000 and 75,000 Iraqi deaths at least indirectly resulting from our presence there. Between twenty and twenty-five Iraqi lives snuffed out for every one of ours.

And I didn't even mention the 25,942 US/coalition military personnel who have been wounded in this insanity, either.
